GIAN MARCO SANNA
You know that feeling of not being able to do without something? Like a drug you can't resist. It happens to you every time you leave the house without your phone or when, without realising it, you pick up your mobile phone during a film and spend 30 minutes in front of the screen. All this has a negative effect on the brain, which accumulates during the day and is released at night, it is called BLUE LIGHT DISTURBANCE and it is capable of disturbing our dreams by turning them into nightmares.
Technology has changed human physiology: it makes us think, feel and dream differently; it influences memory, attention and sleep cycles. This is all thanks to cerebral neuroplasticity, i.e. the brain's ability to modify its behaviour according to new experiences.
Technological insomnia is becoming more and more prevalent in a night world populated by screens. Technology and the blue light emitted by displays alter wake-sleep cycles and our biological clock. This is a new disorder with major consequences, which is becoming increasingly common among people.
REM is a project that delves into the dream of a girl disturbed by the daily use of blue light (computer, telephone, television...). Inside, we find random images of technological screens and metaphorical and mystical images on the most absurd facets that a dream can take on, which in this case turns into a nightmare due to an excess of technology.
The photobook “REM" by Gian Marco Sanna, published by Artphilein Books, will be released in April 2026.
